John has judged the July competition and we would like to thank everyone for taking part.
In 3rd place - Mike Wilkinson with Essex Coast

The competition this month was of the highest standard so far, and it was tough choosing the top three.
On face value this looks a wonderfully simple shot. But a few things had to work to make it succeed. I particularly liked the use of monochrome, possibly chosen as the dawn of this day was in truth all about flat grey lighting.
The composition has depth, leading the eye, plus a wide tonal range that works well in black and white. It is a fine example that even on days that do not come alive with colour and lots of subject material, if you take time to consider your options, there is something still to be created.
Serene but showing the touch of man in the coastal landscape. Nicely done
2nd Place - Danny Brannigan
Dramatic skies in black and white always look so powerful, but in this shot the immediate impact comes from the
rocks, castle ruins and slightly blurred waves. The later was important to add a feeling of both movement, mystery and simply the power of the sea. It comes together very well and few would not like
to see such an image on their walls if they had taken it. When you think of the ‘coast; it is as much about ruggedness, danger as it is sandy tranquil beaches. Good tonal range and nicely finished with the key line
in white it came very, very close to top spot.
And in 1st place - Andrew Harris with Kaikoura Peninsular

Any land or seascape photographer serious about maximising the potential of their creative tool set, will have a suitable tripod to hand.
Here it has been used no doubt to help search over time for the right composition, then to enhance the captured atmosphere by supporting a long shutter speed.
In turn, blurred waves against rocks give the feeling of a living sea. But on top of that, the photographer has filtered and or enhanced colours post capture to provide when composition, moving and static elements come together along with such colours, the feeling
of a primeval world. Although this was not taken on Uk shores it wins nevertheless as the techniques demonstrated so well can work anywhere. Well done.
Congratulations to all the winners…….the August subject will be announced tomorrow.
